Skeena Watershed Initiative Planning Session

June 25 & 26, 2008
Prince Rupert, BC
Location: Chances Casino / Conference Centre

The purpose of this session is to follow‐up on the discussions that took place in the Skeena Watershed Initiative Information Session held in mid April in Terrace.  The April Session brought together, over 40 participants from all sectors and diverse interests throughout the Skeena watershed. In this session, the outcome of a debriefing session on the SWC process in the 90’s was shared.  The participants also considered whether there was broad support for making an effort now to build a new collaborative governnce structure involving all sectors and interests in the Skeena watershed.  The Information Session ended with strong support for continuing these efforts. A Planning Group was designated to continue working on how such a process might be developed as a basis for discussion at thisfollow up session. SkeenaWild Conservation Trust was also asked at that time to continue its work in helping to co‐ordinate these efforts working closely with the Planning Group.  The Planning Group has been meeting regularly by conference call and is now in a position to share the present state of it’s for discussion purposes” draft Terms of Reference which it had been tasked compose. While there has been no expectation that it will be possible to finalize a governance structure that will be operational this ishing season, the planning group will have some ideas that it would like to share on practical work that could be done this summer on an intrim basis pending agreement, (hopefully later in the year) on an overall collaborative governance structure.  Ensuring that there is broad awareness and opportunity for involvement in moving this Initiative forward is necessary for buiding a solid governance structure. The Planning Group considers these aspects to be important components in developing clear expectations around next steps and tmelines.  If anyone has any questions or concerns, observations or suggestions, please be in touch, and I will assure that they are raised with the Planning Group.  Please confirm your attendance as soon as possible by email: or phone: 250 638 0998
